Going the Virtual Way for Training Patient Counsellors

Northeast India | September 4, 11, 17 and 25
The third virtual training was organized in partnership with Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya and four other partner hospitals based in Guwahati, Manipur, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. 18 participants attended the training, with expert sharing from five counselling experts and three ophthalmologists for clinical information on eye conditions.
East India | July 27-30
Orbis, in partnership with VMA Netra Niramay Niketan, trained 20 patient counsellors from 5 hospitals in West Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. The four-day training included in-depth discussions on both the clinical and counselling aspects of Cataract, Glaucoma and Pediatric, driven by five counselling and three clinical experts. The training involved numerous hands-on sessions, with participants practicing four key skillsets explained during the training – building rapport and opening the dialogue, gathering information, explanation and planning, and closing the counselling. During all practice sessions, the counselling experts were involved to give individual feedback and inputs to each participating counsellor.

Orbis, in close coordination with HV Desai Eye Institute and Kenneth Youngstein, CEO, Biocom Ltd., organized a four-day virtual training in patient counselling, engaging five partner hospitals from Maharashtra and Gujarat. The training sessions engaged 17 counsellors through enriching discussions and numerous practical sessions around basics of patient counselling, stages of counselling, introduction to Eye Book and its usage, cataract counselling, glaucoma counselling, retina counselling, pediatric counselling and oculoplasty counselling.
