Orbis, in collaboration with its partner hospitals, will be organizing multiple virtual training sessions on patient counselling this year, reaching out to counsellors in India and Nepal.

Going the Virtual Way for Training Patient Counsellors
Virtual Training on Patient Counselling is a series of live, hands-on interactive sessions designed to build capacity of patient counsellors in various subspecialties. Kenneth Youngstein, CEO, Biocom Ltd., graciously extended his expertise for the regional training sessions across India

Northeast India | September 4, 11, 17 and 25
The third virtual training was organized in partnership with Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya and four other partner hospitals based in Guwahati, Manipur, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. 18 participants attended the training, with expert sharing from five counselling experts and three ophthalmologists for clinical information on eye conditions.

East India | July 27-30
Orbis, in partnership with VMA Netra Niramay Niketan, trained 20 patient counsellors from 5 hospitals in West Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. The four-day training included in-depth discussions on both the clinical and counselling aspects of Cataract, Glaucoma and Pediatric, driven by five counselling and three clinical experts. The training involved numerous hands-on sessions, with participants practicing four key skillsets explained during the training – building rapport and opening the dialogue, gathering information, explanation and planning, and closing the counselling. During all practice sessions, the counselling experts were involved to give individual feedback and inputs to each participating counsellor.

West India | June 01-04, 2021
Orbis, in close coordination with HV Desai Eye Institute and Kenneth Youngstein, CEO, Biocom Ltd., organized a four-day virtual training in patient counselling, engaging five partner hospitals from Maharashtra and Gujarat. The training sessions engaged 17 counsellors through enriching discussions and numerous practical sessions around basics of patient counselling, stages of counselling, introduction to Eye Book and its usage, cataract counselling, glaucoma counselling, retina counselling, pediatric counselling and oculoplasty counselling.

It was really great to be a part of Orbis Indian virtual training which I have attend in the month of September’21. A big thank you to all the highly motivated and enthusiastic team and I shall forever carry the experience. Such different counselling tricks and tips I got to learn from various departments (paediatric, cataract and glaucoma). Lastly, I would like to mention about the ‘Eye Book’ which is available in various languages. It’s a great tool for patient counsellors. Thank you all once again
Dr. Indu Arneja
Founder, Indian Institute of Healthcare Communication and Counselling Expert at the Virtual Training
I have been working with Orbis India team on Patient communication in ophthalmic practice for the last couple of months. I am impressed with how they meticulously teach communication and counseling skills to optometrists and patient counselors. Irrespective of the audience’s language, experience, or readiness, the team is continuously striving to make the program better and accommodate and address various challenges in training. Their readiness to revise, remodel and rework the content, strategies, and approach is worth praising. Working with Orbis India and Kenneth Youngstein has been a rich experience. I find them very willing and forthcoming to the ideas or solutions I suggest. This gives me immense satisfaction in collaborating with them and giving my 100%. I wish them good luck and great success!
