Orbis CEO Bob Ranck unveils Green Vision Centers for better eyes and better environment!

Solar energy ensures that we provide uninterrupted, quality eye care to those most in need, while contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals of providing access to affordable and clean energy as well as responsible consumption.

Four Vision Centers Turn Green

Green Vision Center is an innovative approach where a vision center is transformed through the use of a combination of clean solar energy, energy efficient electrical fixtures and appliances, and a user-friendly software. Two Vision Centers each in Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts have been transformed under this initiative.

The Green Vision Center concept comes out of our deep concern for the future of our children, not just their eyes, but also the world around them, their environment!”

Bob further added, “Along with training people from the community to identify children who may need eye care, we actively promote setting up primary eye care facilities which would be able to provide services continuously. Orbis has earlier established a Children’s Eye Center at SGLEH, and we are proud to try out this innovative approach towards ensuring sustainable, quality primary eye care in partnership with them.”

Transforming Primary Eye Care

Dr. Rahul Ali threw more light on the GVC initiative and said, “Orbis is committed to achieve universal access and we feel Vision Centers are a key part of this. India has, approximately, 4000 vision centers and the government of India alone plans to set-up a total of 20,000 vision centers. With the Green Vision Center initiative, we offer a new approach that can transform the way we provide primary eye care.”

The use of software in this initiative would help steadily minimize the consumption of paper, potentially bring the use of paper in the outreach setting to almost nil!
