Project Orbis International Inc., India Country Office (Orbis) is seeking applications for the role of Manager - Communications.


Orbis is an international non-for-profit organization that works to improve the lives and conditions of people worldwide through access to quality eye care, training, research and advocacy to eliminate avoidable blindness and empower individuals to attain their full potential.

The Manager - Communications will develop and implement communications strategies, campaigns and initiatives in line with organizational priorities to help build Orbis’s brand visibility and reputation.

  • Brand Communication
    • Maintain a consistent and positive profile to increase brand awareness and recognition.
    • Manage organization’s website including ideation and development of content.
    • Manage opportunities for Orbis to participate in events and meetings to present the organization as a thought leader in eye health.
    • Ensure accuracy and quality of all communications materials in line with the Orbis brand guidelines and related protocols and policies.
    • Oversee the annual communications budget and ensure its use is fully maximized.
  • Publicity/Public Relations
    • Plan and produce publicity and promotional materials.
    • Oversee and support the production of quarterly newsletter. Generate maximum public awareness around Orbis programs, initiatives, events and donor contributions.
    • Liaise with the PR agency/consultants to secure and grow media coverage both online and offline.
  • Program communications including public health initiatives
    • Write editorials and articles.
    • Proofread and edit content, namely reports, project proposals, fact sheets, newsletter, posts and publications.
    • Oversee and support the production of compelling case stories. Identify and commission communication research studies.
    • Develop and execute evidence-based communication programs and campaigns.
    • Support the production of audio/visual materials ensuring adherence to the applicable policies and procedures.
    • Design and produce training and communication materials.
    • Capacity building and supporting partners in developing and deploying effective communication.
    • Schedule periodic monitoring visits to project sites.
  • Internal Communication
    • Liaise with international colleagues regarding scoping visits, planning and execution of events e.g., Flying Eye Hospital visits, donors/supporters etc. within the India program portfolio.
    • Develop quarterly metrics reports for media and online activity to share with Orbis International HQ.
    • Participate in global meetings and regular conference calls.
    • Participate and support the organization of Orbis India events e.g.: Partners’ Meet etc.
  • Team Management
    • Set performance standards and measures with staff members and clarify expectations.
    • Monitor performance, identify internal and external facilitators and barriers that may affect performance.
    • Contribute to team and organizational learning, build organizational capacity by sharing knowledge, tools, expertise and experience; provide opportunities for professional development for individuals and team.
  • Represent Orbis at national and international forums and present in conferences and meetings, and contribute in developing guidelines, manuals and publications.
  • Ensure timely completion/submission of quality work outputs for all the above.
  • Identify relevant vendors/consultants and manage these relationships for efficient delivery of communications solutions.
  • Follow and adhere to the policies and norms of the organization in vogue or as amended from time to time.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Country Director.


  • Post – Graduate with a degree in Mass Communication.
  • Minimum 7 years of working experience in communications and 3 years preferably in Non – profit sector.
  • Must have exposure to Website management, Digital orientation and social media.


  • Good communication skills with excellent verbal and written English

  • Flexible, pro-active, and open-minded work style: the ability to work productively both independently and in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to travel 30% of the time.
